Grab a toilet paper roll and cut it almost in half.

Begin by cutting a green rectangular piece of construction paper, ensuring the height approximately matches the height of your paper roll.

Have your kids draw cactus spines with a green marker – gently wavy lines running vertically on the rectangle.

Have them continue drawing the cactus spines throughout the green paper, bringing their prickly plant to life.

Wrap the green paper around the toilet paper roll with the seam on the underside leaving a bit of a flap at the bottom.
It’s starting to look like a cactus!

Tape the paper in place with glue.

Get the kids to make two white paper circle eyes that go on top of their cactus friend.

Cut out a tongue shape from red paper, fold the end, apply glue on the flap, and stick it on.
The cactus can now taste the desert air!

Have children use a black marker to draw the cactus’s eyes, bringing it to life.

Cut out a cactus “hand” from green paper and draw thorns.

Paint the glue on the flap, and stick it to one side of the cactus.

Do the same to the other side.

Finally, make the kids cut tall shapes like triangles out of green paper and paste them on the outside of the paper roll on the parameters underside to add depth and texture.

All done!

The cactus toilet paper roll is in character and will set up fun desert style in your house.
